Superposition is an explosive Helsinki-based quartet led by drummer Olavi Louhivuori with Linda Fredriksson and Adele Sauros on saxophones and Mikael Saastamoinen on bass. Known from his solo work, Oddarrang and collaborations with the likes of Tomasz Stanko, Louhivuori here joins forces with some of the most compelling voices of the Finnish scene.
Having won the Emma prize for the Finnish jazz album of the year with their self-titled debut, Superposition takes leaps forward with their remarkably strong second album, taking the quartet's acoustic free jazz based sound towards a more melodic, flowing direction.
A sought-after live act, the band thrives on collective development: all four members contribute compositions shaped to serve the group’s unified sound. Moody, introspective passages shift naturally into high-energy bursts, echoing the acoustic freedom jazz lineage of artists like Don Cherry. Deep-toned yet fiercely expressive, this is music that rewards repeated listening, marked by a rare sense of togetherness.
The group is now preparing its highly anticipated third album, set for release in 2026, promising a further expansion of their distinctive musical language.
