Gourmet will be serving both fresh new delicacies as well as tried and true Gourmet-classics at the April Jazz Club. Dinner is served.
Gourmet, formed in 1997, released their fourth album En garde in April 2018. The album features compositions of the founding members Mikko Innanen and Esa Onttonen. The ensemble has held together over 15 years, and successfully avoided tight compartments since the beginning. Their music has references from cinematic tones, schlager, marching music and the traditions of Paris and New Orleans. Gourmet is par excellence a jazz ensemble that sees jazz more as an attitude than a music genre.
En garde and the festival performances in France and Finland following the album, received an excellent reception from both the audience and the press. Helsingin Sanomat, the largest daily newspaper in Finland, gave full five stars for the album and classified Gourmet to “a class of its own”. A jazz portal, SuomiJazz.com, described Gourmet as “one of the most important institutions of Finnish rhythmic music” after their performance at the Raahen Rantajatsit festival in 2018.
On Jazz Finland tour in February 2019, Gourmet performs old classics and pieces from the En Garde album but also new, unheard compositions.

Our opening act is the talented new duo Tara i Kajsa, who have just released their first single Colours. As a special treat, the show will also feature clarinetist Julia Rima.
“Tara i Kajsa is a cool duo of a jazz freak and a contemporary music wanna-be composer (rather freakish, too). Put together we make music that perfectly fits into an unspecified pop genre.”
Kaisa Sainio -vocals
Tara Valkonen – guitar
Julia Rima – clarinet
