Alexi Tuomarila Trio

Album release concert! The Alexi Tuomarila trio is a group forged together so strongly that the musicians find themselves working together in multiple contexts. Tuomarila has created a sensation with his trio, highlighting his melodically and rhythmically robust compositions and the trio’s almost telepathic communication. This music is filled with emotional and melancholy warmth balanced with a rhythmical drive.

Described by Jazz Times as ‘…one of the next big deals on jazz piano…’, Alexi Tuomarila is amongst the finest pianists on the European Jazz scene right now. Known for his work with Polish ECM trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, Tuomarila has quietly grown into a musical force to reckon with. A true sculptor of sound, the pianist and composer has the ability to mould awe-inspiring melodic lines with precision and rhythmic finesse, decorated with a vibrant imagination, energy undercut with melancholy.

Synesthetic 4

The quartet Synesthetic 4 values dynamic precision with an inimitable narrative touch. Its repertoire ranges from melodious to manic and includes a wide variety of off-color tonal shades. The driving force behind this formation is renowned clarinetist Vincent Pongracz, who has been blending jazz and hip-hop with the Synesthetic Octet for many years, employing the tropes of New Music and Dadaist zaniness. Largely foregoing musical ornamentation, Synesthetic 4 is far less eclectic in its approach than the octet. Audiences are in for a compelling experience where musical reduction is amped up to the max.

In the fall of 2018 they started a residency at the Club Rhiz in Vienna with the title Synesthetic Wednesday where the band presents a new program every month with various local and international guests. Their first album will be released in the fall of 2019.

Vincent Pongracz, clarinet
Peter Rom, guitar
Manuel Mayr, bass
Andreas Lettner, drums

The concert is supported by the Austrian Embassy in Helsinki.
