CHARLES LLOYD NEW QUARTET
feat. Jason Moran, Reuben Rogers and Gregory Hutchinson
Lloyd, who cemented his reputation as far back as the sixties, is considered to be one of the most prominent sax-players still alive. Lloyd’s album Forest Flower has sold over a million copies. The lyrical sound of Lloyd’s tenor exhibits influences from oriental spiritualism as well as the legacy of Coltrane. Lloyd has in the past showcased rising young talents in his line ups, such as Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett and Jack Dejohnette. He continues this tradition by bringing a selection of top talents from around the world to April Jazz. Among these is Jason Moran, who was voted number one in three categories in the 2011 DownBeat critics poll.
