Kauniita Piikkejä album's release concert for the Omani uni project, formed by wonderful Finnish singers Maria Ylipää and Emma Salokoski, together with topmost Finnish musicians.

Emma Salokoski and Maria Ylipää's Omani uni project started at the end of the 2000s, when Emma and Maria performed a concert of new Finnish composed poetry at the Viapori Jazz festival with two female voices, a string quartet and a jazz trio. The themes of the poems covered a wide spectrum from love to imprisonment and from death to the curse of beauty. Based on the concert, the album Omani uni was born and released in 2010.

Now the Omani uni project will continue in the form of a new album. Between these two recordings, Maria and Emma have both managed to work extensively in the field of art. The composition and concept is the same on the new album, but this time the poems have been selected as dictated by the life experience of more mature women. The lyrics of the bilingual album consist of already existing poetry, as well as texts written specifically for the album. At the launch concert of the album "Kauniita piikkejä", the already impressive large line-up is completed with two special guests when saxophonist Jukka Perko and accordionist Niko Kumpuvaara join the band.

Musically, the composers and performers of the album are chameleons in their field. They are able to naturally venture from one style to another, seasoning their music with improvisations. The album includes songs, e.g. From Anna-Mari Kähärä, Lauri Salokoski, Marzi Nyman and Pekka Kuusisto. The lyricists include Heimo Hatakka, Sofi Oksanen, Ingrid Sjöstrand and Edith Södergran.

Known as a singer and actress, Maria Ylipää has played numerous leading roles in musicals (e.g. Wicked, Kristina från Duvemåla, West Side Story), as well as in TV series and films. Her voice has also been heard in numerous animations. Maria performs together with her own Maria Ylipää & Ystävät ensemble and is a guest soloist of symphony orchestras and big bands.

Emma Salokoski has had a long career as a recording artist. She is best known for her song "Veden alla", which has already been streamed close to six million times. Emma has recorded music very widely with e.g. Quintessence, Ilmiliekki Quartet, Don Johnson Big Band and Emma Salokoski Ensemble. She has performed the music she composed in contemporary dance works, and leads the Emma Salokoski Voices choir, with which she has done interdisciplinary art projects and musical theater. Emma has also worked as a soloist for several symphony orchestras and big bands and performed in various television concerts.
