KOLIZIO

Album release concert of the band formed by six brass virtuosos!

KOLIZIO (Esperanto, collision), an ensemble that creates new and fresh perspectives for brass playing by combining classical tradition with jazz music. KOLIZIO's repertoire mainly consists of original compositions by the band's founding member, tubist Petri Keskitalo, as well as inventive arrangements of classic songs from different genres. At KOLIZIO's concerts, you might hear Bruckner interwoven with Beethoven embellished with jazz improvisation, or a Beach Boys classic merging with Sibelius.

Just before recording the band's first album in the spring of 2023, Keskitalo passed away unexpectedly. After that, the Portuguese tuba virtuoso Sergio Carolino joined the ensemble as its newest member. Now the album is finished and its release will be celebrated at April Jazz!

Kryvyi Rih Junior Big Band

Kryvyi Rih Junior Big Band is a youth orchestra made up of students from a music school located in Espoo's partner city Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. Founded in 1980, the jazz orchestra has visited several European festivals, e.g. In the Nordic countries, Germany, France and Spain. The ensemble has also collaborated with many leading Ukranian jazz musicians. From 2001 to 2004, French national television produced a film about the Kryvyi Rih jazz phenomenon titled "Melody in G Minor."

The orchestra's current repertoire is diverse, featuring arrangements of well-known jazz standards, works by contemporary composers, as well as jazz adaptations of Ukrainian folk and modern songs arranged by Artem Zinchenko.

Saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen, one of the international cornerstones of Finnish jazz, will be seen on stage as a special guest soloist.
